Groundwater crisis concerns rise in Indore | All borewells to be monitored | Focus on RO plants, …

Due to low rainfall in Indore, the administration’s concern regarding the groundwater situation has increased. According to the report, this year the city has received less than normal rainfall, which may impact groundwater recharge. There are approximately 100,000 boreholes in the city, including approximately 7,000 government boreholes. The administration is now preparing to monitor these boreholes and assess actual water consumption. There are plans to install flow meters to monitor water consumption in RO plants, industries, and hotels. This will help maintain records of water usage and strengthen the system for taking action against excessive exploitation. The report also provides groundwater exploitation data for Indore district in previous years. Groundwater exploitation is projected to be 121 percent in 2023, 120 percent in 2024, and 118 percent in 2025, while this year’s figure is 90 percent.
